How to Apply
In order to apply, please fill out the Application Form, which will ask you to provide the following information:
The specific PIAAC process data related research question(s) you are interested in. Please note that in order to qualify to participate in the workshop, your research question(s) must make use of the U.S. PIAAC process data. (2500 character limit)
A short description of your research experience and interests as they relate to participating in this workshop and the use of PIAAC or PIAAC process data. (2500 character limit)
Requirements
Participants in the workshop are expected to:
Have basic knowledge of the PIAAC study.
Have intermediate knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistical analysis (e.g., regression analysis, factor analysis).
Have an intermediate level of familiarity with the R statistical software package.
Bring their own laptop computer* with wireless Internet access capabilities and Internet browser.
[*Please note that the LogDataAnalyzer tool only runs on a Windows environment. Mac users will need to have a Windows emulator.]
The PIAAC LogDataAnalyzer (LDA) is a Windows-based interface that can be used to analyze the PIAAC log-file data. In addition, specific R packages will be introduced (e.g., LogFSM).
In general, participants in this workshop should have doctoral degrees or be graduate students in doctoral programs, and should have a strong desire to conduct research using PIAAC log files/process data. However, no academic affiliation is necessary and we welcome applicants from research and policy organizations, as well.
In reviewing applications for participation, the following aspects will be considered:
educational background
research experience
relevance of the PIAAC process data to your research questions
knowledge and skills in statistical analyses and software
We will provide released data and documentation from the publicly available databases prior to the workshop. The PIAAC LDA and the R program will be used during the workshop. R (with packages; having RStudio is advised) and MS Excel are needed to view files generated by the PIAAC LDA and thus to fully participate in the workshop.
